This page describes the accessible version of H-1B Geographic Usage, linked from the default site. Under WCAG it is a conforming alternate version: same DOL LCA data and the same tasks (search, map, Ask, compare, trends, news), with keyboard, screen-reader, and text equivalents added.
Target
We aim for WCAG 2.1 Level AA, which is the yardstick U.S. ADA website cases and the DOJ Title II rule use. This copy is not a legal certification. A human screen-reader pass is still the way to confirm it.
How to use this version
- Press Tab after the address bar for Skip to main content.
- Search, tables, and Areas in this view on the map are the keyboard path. The heatmap itself is a canvas.
- Charts include a start / end / change table under the drawing.
- The morph control speaks the fiscal quarter. Arrow keys move it. If you set Reduce Motion, Play steps one quarter instead of animating.
- Escape closes the area details dialog.
Known limits
- The heatmap and circle colors are visual. Use the on-map text list and the Compare / Trends tables for the same facts.
- Street-level map pins are easier with a mouse; zoom, then use the address list where it appears.
- The archived previous site at /old/ is a frozen snapshot and is not in this accessibility scope.
- The default site (the page that linked you here) is the original visual UI and is not the AA target.

If something in this version is unusable with a keyboard or screen reader, that is a defect in the accessible copy — report it the same way you would any site issue.
